This is a stunning cut glass bowl from the American Brilliant period most likely made by Christian Dorflinger & Co., dating to the 1890's. The design is most likely the Sultana pattern by Dorflinger based on my research with ACGA and referencing their old out of print catalogs. Dorflinger never used acid etched trademarks but rather trademarks were printed on gum papered labels, or stickers, and applied. The Sultana pattern is one of Dorflinger’s best, extremely RARE and one of the harder to find. The top of this bowl has a sawtooth edge, and the sides feature bands of diamonds with various motifs including stars, circles and diamonds within diamonds that look like beautiful little “windows” done in mitered cuts. The base of the bowl is extremely impressive with an all-encompassing flower formation that covers the entire base and melds seamlessly into the rest of the pattern. This piece is in amazing antique condition with only a few minor flea bites or areas that feel slightly sharp to the touch which is not uncommon with these pieces. It sparkles in the light; it passes the ring test and its quite heavy -- all signs of American Brilliant Period cut glass.
- Measures 7.75" x 4" and weighs 4 lbs.
- I was unable to find an exact comp for this size bowl but a larger punch bowl in this pattern sold for $2500.
