This 19th century antique brown transferware platter in the Madras pattern by Brownfield & Sons is crazy good if you appreciate antiques that have lots of character and show their age! Brownfield & Sons were manufacturers of earthenware and porcelain at Cobridge, Stoke-on-Trent, England. The Madras pattern is Asian inspired and consists of a central scenic garden motif of pagodas, trees, flowers and people. The wide border repeats the theme of flowers, foliage and Chinese architecture with a geometric design around the edge. It has a beautiful backstamp and several impressed marks. However, due to the heavy amount of crazing and staining I'm unable to clearly make out the impressed marks in order to date this piece to a particular month and year, but this pattern is circa 1850's-1880's, making it somewhere between 144-174 years old. This is a beautiful piece to display in a plate wall, plate rack or cabinet and perfect for fall table scapes. Due to the age and condition of this piece it is NOT appropriate for food use, please use for DISPLAY ONLY.

  • Measures 16" x 12.75"
  • Has a large amount of crazing, staining and a few hairline cracks
