STUNNING! 19th Century Louis XVI Style 800 Silver Repousse Gravy Boat Saucier with Attached Underplate
STUNNING! 19th Century Louis XVI Style 800 Silver Repousse Gravy Boat Saucier with Attached Underplate
This is an ornate hand hammered and formed gravy boat saucier and underplate made of 800 silver in the 19th century. The details on this antique piece are exquisite and will bring an air of elegance and sophistication to any table or cabinet display. It's decorated with hand chased repousse Louis XVI style raised garland swags and bows with a gold washed interior. The underplate is attached to the gravy boat saucier with a bolt and wing nut and is stamped with three Continental hallmarks (one being crossed hammers) and 800. It’s most likely made in Germany but I’m unable to clearly make out two of the hallmarks. This unique and stunning statement piece is in excellent antique condition with some minor signs of age related wear which is expected.
- Gravy boat measures 6" high to top of handle and underplate measures 8" x 5"
- Weight is 308 grams of 800 silver. 800 silver also referred to as coin silver is a silver alloy containing 80% pure silver 20% alloy. This combination of 80/20 gives it a lustre and sheen setting it apart from other silver alloys. It's highly durable, often used in intricately detailed pieces and retains it's value over time making it a good investment.
- Purchased at auction. I'm unable to find comps online for this exact piece but a very similar piece sold for 1500 Euros.
