Unbelievably rare find, 1764-1769 Wedgewood Etruria Greek Key Plate. A true gem for your wall or hutch. It doesn’t get better than this. Josiah Wedgewood was very heavily influenced by Greek vases, hence the cameo look and Greek figures on jasperware. He named his first factory at age 29 Etruria, as his inspiration was Etruscan pieces. These early plates what that led Queen Charlotte of England to order her China from him coining the term Queensware. If you look at the back of the plate Wedgewood is spelled Wedgwood without the “e”, matching the mark to the date. Sorry for the history lesson, but this plate is just everything. Condition outstanding for plate age. No chips, light crazing and minor paint loss in Greek key hand paint.
Size 10 1/2” diameter
