Vintage Hewitt Jackson Original Oil on Canvas Clipper Ship Painting circa 1970’s

Original signed oil on canvas ship painting by listed and highly collected artist, Hewitt Jackson. Framed size is 14.5” wide by 12.5” tall. Canvas size is 10” x 8”. This painting is circa 1970’s. Slight wear to the wood frame but the oil painting is pristine. Matted, framed and signed lower right, Jackson. 

History: Known for his accurate ship drawings and detailed paintings, Hewitt Jackson was born in the Kirkland, Washington in 1914. He went to sea at the age of 12 years doing ciphering and sketching during his time off from school. He sailed the seven seas and during his "wander" years, met prominent artists and authors including John Steinbeck and Norman Rockwell. His renderings of authentic early century sailing ships on Puget Sound show his love for historical accuracy and fine detail. His works are in many maritime collections including the Oregon Historical Society, the Columbia River Maritime Museum, Astoria, and the Washington State Historical Society. He passed away in 2007.
